Plan of Salvation

Why do we need salvation?

We are born with a sinful nature. David said:

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5).
We are all sinners.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
Our sin separates us from God.

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2).

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him (Ezekiel 18:20).
There is nothing that we can do on our own to get back in a right relationship with God.

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one (Romans 3:10-12).
You can’t earn favor with God. You cannot work your way to heaven.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
There is judgment to come.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31).
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
All unrepentant sinners will suffer the wrath of God for all of eternity.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death (Revelation 21:8).

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15).

Plan of Salvation

Even though God is angry with the unrepentant sinners (Psalm 7:11; John 3:36), there is hope in our Reedemer – Jesus Christ our Lord.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10).

Propitiation means that the wrath of God was satisfied.
There is Good News!

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, lived a perfect, sinless life. He never sinned in His thoughts, words or actions. He always did the will of God the Father. Then He willingly laid down his life for guilty sinners who put their faith in Him. Jesus died on the cross, was buried and rose victoriously from the grave three days later. He defeated sin, death, hell and Satan. Now He sits at the right hand of God the Father.
The Gospel is good news.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
There is no other way of salvation.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6).
Salvation is a gift from God.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
There is no salvation without repentance.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:3).
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death (2 Corinthians 7:10).
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy (Proverbs 28:13).

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19).

And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, 21 testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:20-21).
Confess the Lord Jesus.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).
Today is the day to be saved.

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation 2 Corinthians 6:2.)
Summary

Don’t put off salvation. Admit that you are a sinner and that you have offended God. Recognize that your sin has separated you from God. If you die in your sins, you will suffer the torments of the lake of fire and brimstone for all of eternity. But God in His great love for us, made a way of escape through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus paid the sin debt that we owe; while He suffered and died on the cross. He rose victoriously from the grave three days later and God offers everlasting life to those who repent and put their faith in Jesus. Do this today. Repent and believe the Gospel.
